CRRCSim is a model-airplane flight simulation program for Linux with ports to other platforms. Using CRRCSim you can learn how to fly model aircraft, test new aircraft designs, and improve your skills by practicing in the relative safety of your pc.

  • Thanks to sztyopair instructions I managed to compile and install this neat little sim without having to resort to using snap (dragon) :-o I don't know why the error mentioned hasn't been fixed. I wanted to get in a bit of practice before risking the real thing and I'm glad I did. There's a few quirks with the close-up view but the overall experience is great. Very basic graphics which is fine because your focused on controlling the craft rather than admiring the view and the mechanics seem good. There's the possiblity to add models and scenery using ac files and xml. Great job devs, thanks for this.
  • Great sim. I choose this because it is free works on Linux and can read the RC transmitter using a sound card. 4 stars because the installation was not pleasant, to say the least. System: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Here are the steps that I did: 1, Read compile.txt in the documentation folder. 2, Install required packages: * SDL 1.2.x : sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev sudo apt-get install libsdl-image1.2-dev sudo apt-get install libsdl-mixer1.2-dev sudo apt-get install libsdl-ttf2.0-dev sudo apt-get install libsdl-gfx1.2-dev * PortAudio 18.1: dowload compile install V19 was used I was not able to compile V18 * PLIB 1.8.4 or later: sudo apt install libplib-dev * libjpeg 6b : sudo apt update sudo apt install libjpeg-dev * BOOST necessary for the installation of CGAL: sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev libboost_thread-mt.so no longer exists therefore a link is made: run this line in the folder where libboost_thread.so is located in your system (in my case : usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/) sudo ln -s libboost_thread.so libboost_thread-mt.so * CGAL : sudo apt-get install libcgal-dev 3, Compile and install: First, the compilation gives an error. The error is in src/mod_video/crrc_animation.cpp:87:35. The original code: std::cerr << "createAnimation: unknown animation type \'" << type << "\'" << std::cerr; It does not seem right what I used isntead: std::cerr << "createAnimation: unknown animation type \'"<< type << "\'"; After that, it can be compiled and installed.

  • I've fought with and given up on a lot of flight simulators -- no matter the cost, they're always a struggle, and playing on a Mac makes it even tougher. This sim picked up my Taranis right out of the gate, and after 5 seconds mapping the channels I was in the air. Here's the kicker, though -- I've only flown fixed wings in FPV, flying LOS has never really appealed to me at all, in simulators or in real life. This sim, though, the physics and especially the wind, feels so good that I couldn't stop, and after 2 hours I finally feel comfortable with fully unstablized LOS. Moderate winds weren't a struggle, they were fun! Especially the slope soaring on Cape Cod. My only wish, after saying all that, is that it also did FPV.
  • I had this program on my computer before I upgraded from Debian 8.0.0 to the Debian Buster 10.0.3 version. I have downloaded the file and tried to install it. All the required files are NOT INCLUDED as expected. I have tried to down load the other files from the internet but they are scattered all over and are not working together to run the crrcsim. I am disappointed in this because I like the program. The earlier version was complete and installed easily. I hope that you can make it easier to install so I can get it to work. One improvement would be to set up various transmitters to work through the dongle suppied by the transmitter companies like Spektrum. I have one of their dongles to use if I can get the program to work. It plugs into the usb port and the trainer port on my DX9 tx. My previous install was mouse driven only.
  • Crrcsim is an excellent rc airplane model simulator. I run it on a Mac where rc flight sims are rare. It REALLY helps to get a feel for flying and saves tons of money and repair time. There is a nice collection of models including thermal and slope gliders, DLGs and of course prop planes. Seems to me the "feel" is quite realistic. The two basic locations - airfield and coastal slope - are good as they offer different flying scenarios, i.e. thermal and slope. The additional scenarios - French alps - are very impressive. All in all: excellent, lots of fun and great to get in some practice time on rainy days and during the winter months. Crrcsim should have its own website. Would make it easier to find and promote it.
